BLTin (pronounced as Built-In) is a program that aims at developing English speaking skills and developing talents of students using local experts and students’ inherent motivation, hence the term “built-in”. It targets 11 secondary schools in Bagamoyo District. The program shall train 77 secondary school teachers of English Language. The training will cover four courses of structured reading literacy: 1) The Science of Reading and Structured Literacy; 2) Decoding and Encoding: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, and Morphology; 3) Supporting Language Comprehension: Vocabulary, Morphology, and
Background Knowledge and 4 The Reading and Writing Connection: Syntax and Text Structures.
While strengthening their skills, the program shall discover and nurture talents among secondary school students. This will be done through formation and training of Talent Acquisition Clubs (TAC) in areas of art (music, dance, drama, painting, writing, rhetoric/public speaking) and computer science (coding, programming) and athletes.
Direct Beneficiaries
The project targets 8,697 direct beneficiaries. The project targets 690 students who are expected to join Talent Acquisition Clubs (TACs); 7,700 students who will be taught by 77 English Language Teachers. The end of year Talent Fair is expected to attract more than 500 stakeholders in the private sector, international organizations, government agencies and embassies.
The project also targets 13 administrators from 13 secondary schools in Bagamoyo.
Indirect Beneficiaries
Total estimated indirect beneficiaries are 13,200. The project estimates the total of 13,000 students in all target schools. Students are expected to benefit from their peers who will be part of the program. Also, another 200 teachers will benefit from structures and programs that will be built by the program.
